It’s National Never Give Up Day and here at Hemsley Organics, we want to give you our top tips for how to take care of your wellbeing. Whilst Never Give Up Day is celebrated today, we want to ensure that you are focusing on yourself and your happiness year round. 


What is National Never Give Up Day?

Here at Hemsley Organics, we are all about celebrating our own personal wins, no matter what they may be - and that is exactly what National Never Give Up Day is all about. On this day, we celebrate the perseverance and determination that many have in the face of adversity. 

We take this day to  recognise and honour the individuals who have overcome obstacles and achieved success despite the challenges they have faced. We also take this time to remind ourselves to never give up on our dreams and to keep pushing forward. Even if everything seems against us, there are many reasons for us to keep striving toward our goals. One of the main ways we can get ourselves back on track is to focus on our wellbeing. 


1. Making Self-Care a Priority

Self-care is a vital part of having a positive mental and physical wellbeing. We should always be taking time out of our day to check in with ourselves, and focus on how we are feeling. Self-care can be anything - as long as it makes you feel happy, and at one with yourself. 

For example, many people view their skincare routine as time just for themselves. They can take time out of their busy schedules, and simply focus on one activity, which after having finished, they will feel refreshed. 


2. Practise Mindfulness 

Much like making self-care a priority, practising mindfulness should also be at the top of your to-do list. Practising mindfulness or meditation in your day-to-day life can reduce your stress levels and improve your mental clarity. When looking at your wellbeing, it’s important that you put aside time where you can be with yourself. Reiki at home sessions are a great way to carve out time for yourself, and focus on physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. 

Booking yourself in for either a 30 minute or 60 minute at home Reiki session can promote a sense of relaxation and reduce stress. Not only can it enhance your mental clarity and improve your focus, but Reiki can help you release any emotional blockages you could be having. This can in turn, promote feelings of calm and inner peace.

3. Stay Active

Staying active is not only good for your body, but it’s also great for your mental wellbeing. Physical activity can release chemicals in the brain which will make us feel good. Through regular exercise, we can boost our self-esteem, positively impact our mood, and sleep much better. 

Staying active doesn’t have to be a grind either. Many people love going to the gym regularly, or running to set a new personal best, but getting your body moving doesn’t always have to be with a physical goal in mind. Exercising can be fun, and a simple way to get endorphins pumping again. 


4. Prioritise Good Sleeping Habits

To improve your relationship with your wellbeing, sleep can be your best friend. In order to feel more grounded within yourself, getting a good night’s sleep is a must. To be able to achieve optimal sleep, there are a few things you can do. 

Firstly, control the light in your bedroom. We would recommend using blackout curtains or shades which can block out any unwanted light. You can also consider adding a dimmer switch to your lightening fixtures if it suits you. Another way to ensure you have a goodnight’s sleep is to keep your room clutter-free. A tidy space can actually promote full relaxation and reduce your overall stress levels. If you are someone who tosses and turns at night with racing thoughts, this option could really suit you. 

We would also recommend getting a solid sleeping routine in place. In order to get both your mind and body ready for bed, you can consider implementing a few steps. For example, spraying your cushion down with a pillow mist before getting into bed. A calming and aromatic spray can create a serene and tranquil atmosphere which will help you drift on in no time. 5. Set Realistic Goals & Celebrate Small Achievements

Finally, setting realistic goals for yourself is a must. We all get so caught up in achieving the big things that sometimes, the smaller goals get forgotten. Getting up and dressed can be a goal worth celebrating - so can making your bed, or leaving the house. Sometimes, in a world dedicated to hussle culture, we can go against the norm and slow down. 

That’s why it’s important to look internally at ourselves, and what goals matter to us. What do we need to do in order to achieve our small or realistic goals? By knocking down a few important, yet logical goals, we can stay motivated and on the right track. Also, we can practise gratitude through doing this and focus on the positive aspects of our life.

Discover and be inspired by the story behind Hemsley Organics from one of our founders, Joe Hemsley. His journey is sure to keep you motivated and pushing forward, even during difficult times when you feel like giving up.

“Starting out in the beauty industry with no background was never going to be an easy task, but it didn't always prepare me for the hurdles. It was quite literally a dream I'd had from being young, which when I say this sounds strange to most people, but I genuinely always thought I would have a cosmetics company one day. Fast forward to my mid twenties and this dream came to fruition during a struggling battle with anxiety. I was meditating one day and it was as if this dream came back to the front of my mind again, and I genuinely felt guided to include reiki within it. 

“My wife, Georgina Hemsley, introduced me to reiki and I'd been using it along with other relaxation techniques to help my anxiety levels. Whilst many thought I was crazy to start a cosmetics company with no experience and to incorporate reiki, I found it liberating and exciting. 

Reiki healed me, it helped me through low times mentally and I thought, along with my dream to create organic skincare, why not try and introduce as many people as possible to reiki along the way. I understood that anything and everything can benefit from reiki healing, so why should skincare be any different?”

I began researching skincare and gained my wife's knowledge as the owner of her own holistic salon. I carried out a diploma in skincare and turned our spare room into a mini lab so I could understand every mechanic behind creating a skincare product.

I started out with 2 products, our organic day & night cream, and naively believed we would sell thousands overnight. The beauty industry is saturated and I soon realised this was going to be a long journey. Working 3 jobs to fund Hemsley Organics, I continued on and gained knowledge within the industry. We launched a further 4 products to create our Anahata Collection and 4 years on we continue to grow and expand our brand. 

Self funding this dream hasn't been easy and has come with many battles but seeing every order come through our website and new stockists coming on board makes it all worth it. Just knowing that people love our products as much as we do is the best feeling ever. Now we continue to grow and expand Hemsley Organics with 2024 being our most exciting year to come! I would encourage anyone to never give up on their dreams and be prepared for the ups and downs of the journey.”
